Bearing technology

Seal Supply's range includes almost all standard straight bushings, sliding plates and thrust washers, with and without a collar. A straight bushing is a bearing where the shaft slides into the bearing. Straight bushings are used in almost every industry. Slide bearings offer many advantages, particularly where low-maintenance solutions are required. Examples of applications are: agricultural machinery, pumps, marine engines, diesel engines, electric motors, generators, cement mixers, turbines, gearboxes, paper machines and hydraulic cylinders. In addition to our wide range, it is almost always possible to supply plain bearings in non-standard materials, dimensions, tolerances and designs. We keep standard sizes and designs in stock at our warehouse in Hattemberbroek.

Two types of straight bushings are most commonly used:

  • GL-10

  • GL-24

Applications GL-10

This PTFE dry running plain bearing with steel sleeve is very suitable for high load and medium speed applications, where self-lubrication is a requirement. This type of plain bearing is frequently used in hydraulics.

This type of plain bearing is also available from stock in the collar version (type GL-110K).

Advantages:

  • maintenance-free

  • self-lubricating

  • high load carrying capacity

Applications GL-24

This maintenance-bound POM plain bearing has very good wear behaviour and low friction value, is creep-resistant and provides good results in ‘dirty’ environments for outdoor use. Lubrication with grease is recommended for POM plain bearings. At relatively low loads, a lubricated POM bearing experiences very little initial wear (0.002 mm) and will also not experience significant further wear during use (if lubricated after). At higher loads (more than 100 N/mm2), wear is greater at the beginning, but further wear during service life is less. This type of plain bearing is also frequently used in hydraulics.

Advantages:

  • good wear behaviour

  • high speeds

  • high load carrying capacity

Mounting straight bushings

The use of a mounting mandrel is necessary with the correct choice of fit in order to easily mount the straight bushings. Using a press, the straight bushings are pressed into the housing. For larger dimensions (> 60 mm.), it is advisable to use an additional auxiliary ring. With this auxiliary ring, the straight bushing can be squeezed, reducing the necessary assembly force.
