Oil seals
Oil seals are used to seal rotating or slewing machine parts, mainly on shafts. The outer casing ensures that the oil seal is fixed in the housing. The sealing lip is usually fitted with a spring. This realises the rotational pressure of the sealing lip.

Oil seals are rotary seals. They are used for sealing rotating or slewing machine parts, mainly on shafts. The areas of application of oil seals are diverse and are at all levels of machine and equipment construction. The outer jacket guarantees a safe static seal and ensures that the oil seal is fixed in the housing. The outer jacket is made of metal or sheathed with an elastomer. The reinforcement ring gives the oil seal the necessary stability. The sealing lip is fitted with a spring. This realises the rotating pressure of the sealing lip. Optionally, a dust lip can be used with the oil seal, which stops dirt or dust from outside.
Applications for oil seals
These shaft seals are used in the construction of motors, industrial drives, gear motors, electric motors, internal combustion engines, pumps, drive systems, agricultural machinery, construction machinery, domestic appliances, washing machines (for household and industry), dishwashers, large machines, rolling machines, shipbuilding and wind power plants etc..
Features of oil seals
We distinguish these shaft seals into three basic types. Type OS-A has an elastomer outer jacket, which guarantees a very good static seal. Type OS-B is characterised by a metal outer jacket, which ensures a precise fit in the housing. Type OS-C has an additional metal ring for reinforcement, which is more suitable as an oil seal in case of difficult mounting conditions and rough conditions.
Materials oil seals
These rotary seals are available in various materials, such as NBR, FKM, VMQ, ACM, EPDM, HNBR, etc.. For shaft seals that need to function well under special conditions, we have a supply programme of Garlock-PS Seals. This may, for example, be required in the food industry or in applications with high circumferential velocity, high pressure, abrasive and aggressive media, dry running and/or extreme temperatures.
