A kantseal is used as an alternative to an O-ring as an axial static seal with the main purpose of preventing extrusion. Under compression, an O-ring holds up well, but if higher axial pressure is applied, the square shape of the kantseal ensures that extrusion is prevented for longer. Lace seals are used, for example, as static seals in flanges and valves.
Pressure: > 50 MPa
Temperature range:
NBR 85 shore: -30 to 100 °C
FKM 85 shore: -15 to 200 °C
Advantages:
Better extrusion resistance
Form resistant under (axial) pressure
No back-up ring required
Long life
Kantseal vs. O-ring
