Domsel Radial Shaft Seals
Domsel radial shaft seals are sealing elements for moving machine parts. The great advantage of Domsel shaft seals lies in the fact that frictional heat is reduced by up to 50-60% compared to traditional shaft seals. Moreover, the low radial contact pressure of the seal lip against the shaft allows the use of of unhardened steel running surfaces.

Seal Supply also has Domsel shaft seals in its range as standard. The Domsel radial shaft seal is a sealing element for moving machine parts. This shaft seal has proven itself over many years as a seal with first-class properties and has been patented in 12 countries. The great advantage of the Domsel shaft seal lies in the fact that frictional heat is reduced by up to 50-60% compared to traditional shaft seals. Moreover, the low radial contact pressure of the seal lip against the shaft allows the use of unhardened steel running surfaces. Practice has shown that any surface, regardless of quality and finish, is affected by the rubber lip of conventional coil spring oil seals. The quality of the tread largely determines whether leakage in critical conditions leads to slowing or accelerating leakage. When carrying out tests with a Domsel seal on precision-turned shafts, it did form marks on the shaft that only took the form of a ‘superfine lacquer’ in the contact area of the lip, but did not cause wedge-shaped scratches. The design with a metal support ring of the relatively short sealing lip gives a pressure range of 5 to 10 bar. The sealing lip on the Domsel radial shaft seal is considerably more flexible, as the design does not require the lip profile to be reinforced or supported for a spring. The seal lip closes more easily without any gap on the surface of the machine part being sealed, and even real running faults such as static and dynamic eccentricity still result in a good seal.
By combining two collars, it is possible to form Domsel radial shaft seals with double lip with minimum overall length. This type is suitable for heavier applications.
Material combinations
NBR steel (HGx36a), the standard version
NBR stainless steel (304)
FKM steel (HGx36a)
FKM stainless steel (304)
Resistance & temperature range:
NBR is resistant to mineral oils, greases, wax liquids, water, seawater (temperature range: -20°C to +100°C)
FKM is resistant to mineral oils, many chemicals, greases, wax liquids, water, seawater (temperature range: -30°C to + 200°C)
Designs of radial shaft seals
Type A
sealing lip points in the direction of assembly
application: standard, trouble-free sealing points
Type B
the sealing lip points away from the direction of assembly
application: standard, unproblematic sealing points
Type AB
the seal lip points towards direction of assembly
Application: Sealing of compressed air and gases. Sealing for heavier applications with low lubrication
Type AC
the sealing lips point towards and away from the direction of assembly
Application: For good separation of two media
Type BC
the sealing lip points away from the direction of assembly
application: like type AB
