Guidelines and regulations

Seal Supply is responsible for the delivery of high-quality, sustainable and safe products. We check whether our suppliers deliver in accordance with CE guidelines. Seal Supply B.V. meets REACH and RoHS in its deliveries.

REACH

Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of CHemicals (REACH) is a system for registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals produced or imported into the EU. Products that contain substances that are harmful to the environment must be provided with a Material Safety Data Sheet. The substances listed in the Annex XVII list (EC1907 / 2006) are forbidden to use in Europe, unless an organization has obtained an exemption for using a specific substance from this list. If REACH applies to products, these Material Safety Data sheets can be downloaded at article level in our webshop..

RoHS

The RoHS Restriction (Restriction of Hazardous Substances standards) are EU directives 2011/65 / EU (RoHS II) and EU 2015/863 (RoHS III) to reduce the use of hazardous substances in the electronic industry. This concerns the following hazardous substances:

  • Lead - Pb
  • Mercury - Hg
  • Cadmium - Cd
  • Hexavalent chromium - Chromium VI - CrVI+
  • Polybrominated biphenyls - PBBs
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers - PBDEs

PBBs and PBDEs are retardants used in some plastics.

LABS

The LABS requirement is mainly used in the automotive sector to make sure only compounds are used that are free of materials which affect lacquers. In the production of body parts in the automotive industry, this should prevent crater formation in the paint (for example) using seals in a production phase before the paint layer is applied. A well-known method to test for LABS-free compounds is the PV 3.10.7, developed by Volkswagen AG.

FDA and EC1935/2004

In the food industry it is important to work with the right materials, for safety and to comply with legislation and regulations. This also applies to the use of seals that may come into direct or indirect contact with food. Not all compounds meet these requirements . For food safety Regulations apply for the materials to be used (compounds) in the food industry. Two of the most important Regulations are the EC1935 / 2004 and in the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration, US).

Choosing the right seal

Apart from seals such as hygienic seals and PS seals, there is also a number of O-ring compounds available for the food industry. For example, Seal Supply already supplies O-rings in VMQ (Silicone, red), PTFE (white) compounds, various Evolast® FFKM compounds, FKM FEP sheathed & VMQ FEP sheathed that meet these Regulations. We have also added many standard sizes of EPDM Peroxide FDA - EC1935 / 2004 to our stock, including all AS (BS) sizes.
